|Art Nouveau Jewellery|
(c.1880 to 1910)
Art Nouveau could be said to be the first 19th century modern style. It was the first style to stop looking backwards in history for ideas, taking inspiration instead from what it saw around it, in particular the natural world.
When Art Nouveau was showcased first in Paris and then in London, there was outrage; people either loved it or loathed it. Within the style itself there are two distinct looks: curvy lines and the more austere, linear look of artists such as Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Some aspects of Art Nouveau were revived again in the 1960s.
This rare collection of hand crafted 925 quality Dutch / Sterling Silver Art Nouveau Jewellery is inspired by, and much taken from, the original design 'Masters' of 'Van Kempen and Begeer'. The hand crafted manufacturing quality of their jewellery and silverware earned them the honour of being named 'Royal Van Kempen & Begeer' supplying to the Royal Households and Aristocracy of Europe. By the late 19th century the company was at it's height of success in Europe, specialising in Victorian, and then subsequently, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco Jewellery.
In 1984 GL Nederland BV was established and was fortunate enough to acquire this honourable and proud heritage of the Dutch Silver industry together with 30,000 original and well preserved design masters. Crafted by hand, and using those design masters, this Proud and Honourable heritage is kept alive today in our 'Classical Jewellery Range' utilising a combination of past, present, new, but authentic hand finished, and original design and reproduction techniques.
